The AAO Needs Your SUPPORT…
Donate items to this year’s Silent Auction!

May 29th - 30th the 2014 AAO Conference will be hosted by Durham Chapter in Oshawa, Ontario

We are looking for members to donate items such as (but not limited to): Artwork – Archival supplies – Baked goods – Books (related to the profession) – Hand crafted pieces (i.e. jewelry, knitted wares) Pottery – Gift Baskets (i.e. chocolate, wine, beer)

Funds raised from this auction will go to the AAO Shirley Spragge Education Fund, to encourage the continuing education of archivists in Ontario. Your donations are greatly appreciated. A donation to the silent auction would not only support this fund, but would honour the memory of a respected colleague. All items donated will receive a tax receipt.

Shirley Spragge was an enthusiastic, dedicated archivist, well known in the archival community in Ontario and across the county. While she was most closely associated with Queen's University, she was involved in many other endeavours, including archival associations, historical groups, church archives, and university faculty work. In 1995, Shirley died from complications associated with lupus.

Archeion Workshop - April 12th at Carleton University


Are you interested in promoting your Archives content through Archeion, an online descriptive database provided by the Archives Association of Ontario?  An Archeion workshop is coming to Ottawa on April 12th, hosted at Carleton University.

What is Archeion?

Archeion brings together information about archives held by organizations all over Ontario.
Search Archeion to find records of businesses, individuals, families and organizations from all periods of the province's history. The archives described include photographs, diaries, minute books, church registers and municipal records.  http://www.archeion.ca/

When:  Saturday, April 12th, 2014 - 9:15 am to 12:15 pm
Where:  MacOdrum Library at Carleton University, Ottawa (1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa) *workshop will be held in Room 252

Topics to be covered include:
*        Overview of the benefits of having descriptions online
*        Introduction to Archeion & the new Archives Canada online services
*        Explanation of the essential elements of Rules for Archival Description (RAD)
*        Introduction to authority records for archival creators
*        Hands-on experience to learn how to share your descriptions and digital objects online

The workshop will be instructed by Archivist, Amanda Hill.

Cost: Per workshop $65 + HST for AAO members and $95 per workshop for non-members. Minimum participation is 10 for this workshop with a maximum set at 18.

Hello AAO East/Est Members,
 
The City of Ottawa Archives will be a regional host for the Canadian Archives Summit: Towards a New Blueprint for Canada’s Recorded Memory.  The AAO-Ee encourages all of its members to take this opportunity to have their say on the future of archives in Canada. 
 
The Summit will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 8:00am to 5:00pm.  The City of Ottawa Archives will have two rooms for live streaming of the event.  There will be the opportunity to discuss the papers and presentations. Summaries of the discussions will be made and returned as feedback to the Summit.
 
The City of Ottawa Archives is located at 100 Tallwood Drive.  Room 115 (capacity 60) will provide the opportunity of discussion in English, while room 226 (capacity 17) will provide the opportunity of discussion in French.
